The artist uses contrasting colors to emphasize what is most important to him—home and family. It is as if all the details have disappeared into the dark, bluish-black surroundings, and the artist uses warm red to create an atmosphere of comfort, uniting all the members of the composition with flashes of this color. 

In this composition, we can also see the image of the father in the most massive figure – in a warm coat, which spreads its sleeves almost across the entire perimeter of the work, carefully “embracing” the slender, vivid image of the mother. And, as in real life, the children have gathered around the hearth, impatiently awaiting dinner.
